95% Corporates Failed AI Implementation?!

Hi Guys!!

An MIT report this week caught my eye - HOW did 95% of companies fail at implementing AI?

Can you believe a whopping $30-40 billion has been spent on AI yet they recieved $0 ROI.

I saw “AI bubble” and “AI overhype” being thrown around in the news with tech shares plummeting. But after reading this report, there was not much (in my opinion) to say that it is overhyped.

If anything, it is more to do with ONE thing.

Inefficient use of $$$ and implementing AI.

Why? Some conflicting paradoxes to consider:

  • Buy > Build - Companies that build & maintain GenAI tools in house only have 33% deployment compared to 66% that just buy existing tools.

  • Back Office > Front Office - 50% to 70% of AI budget goes to sales & marketing yet back office automation deliverers clearer ROI

  • Education > Innovation - Training staff on how to use AI and keep using it (not just for 1mo). Innovation will follow once internal staff realise what’s possible with AI (who also know their roles better than an external consultant).

  • Integration > Flashy Demos - Make sure new AI tools can connect with existing tools or risk breaking your workflow. Also make sure it fits the workflow or risk staff ditching it next month.

Successful Gen AI builds (low customisation + fast results):

  • Voice AI (call summarization + routing)

  • Automation for contracts & forms

  • Code gen for engineering tasks

Insane quotes (or not!):

  • A corporate lawyer (mid sized firm) said they invested $50,000 in a specialised contract analysis tool BUT she ended up just using ChatGPT ($20/mo) because it consistently produced better outputs.

  • In addition, over 40% of workers use their own personal AI tools despite being forced to use their company AI system (but it’s hard when they know other tools like ChatGPT often give better answers) 🤭

I wasn’t going to write this much but here we are ><

A final thought which reiterates what was mentioned last week - it’s often the “boring” tasks that make for great use cases for AI & Automation.

If I have one piece of advice, it would be:

  • Focus on 1 problem & try automate that 🙂

That’s exactly what I did this week and it’s brought so much joy & giggles!

What I’m building:

I built an AI agent literally by “chatting” in Zapier*.

As you may know, I get alot of inbound emails from brands to sponsor my videos but since the influx of AI tools, this has also meant a surge in flaky AI outreach methods.

Often I get emails like “Hey Brandnat” or “Greetings Brand Nat | AI Automation” - who says greets these days?!

We all know it’s bots.

So what better way to respond than with another bot LOL!

I let it loose to automatically respond without drafts. And boy was it fun to watch.

Some responded with a lowball offer to which my AI agent told them what they can do with that offer (lol don’t worry, it was professional and nice).

Overall, this sounds simple to just chat/prompt (which it is), it was just tedious with the amount of testing I had to do to get it right. Even when the tests went well, sometimes it was inconsistent or forgot the instructions.

This is where other AI agents like Lindy AI is better for this sort of thing where it’s “smarter” out of the box.

Cool things I’ve seen/tried this week:

  • Selling this AI commercial for $1,500 that would normally cost $100,000 to produce?! This was created by my friend Jeff Hunter who also taught his 12yo son Veo 3 & makes $500/video (not bad!). If you’re interest in learning how, here’s the link*.

  • I tried Claude Code (I’m not technical) but it felt like magic! I could chat to my computer and asked it to make me folders, research the web, add files to specific folders on my desktop without me having to do it manually! I went abit too far & tried to make a web scraper in python but I had no idea what it was doing (maybe I should learn how to code 😂). If you have a few hours to spare, Riley Brown had an awesome tutorial on this.

Results from last week’s poll:

  • 44% of you wanted to learn how to automate admin

  • 36% wanted to learn personal branding

  • 20% want to learn latest AI tools

That’s all for this week! 🙂
